Hey guys, I'm new here! I guess I'll start my first entry by saying, I am a HUGE Avatar the Last Airbender nut, and most of my stuff will be about it! Just like this first enrty! This is a little Kataang oneshot I wrote, and I hope you guys like it-

It was winter. And for Aang and his friends,it had been a hard one.

Often times the three friends would have to stop flying early because of snow storms, or because the temperature would drop so low, Appa could not fly. Food was alot more scarce than normal, and this was not good when you had three people, and two animals to feed; one with five stomachs. They had to use their money scarcely, but they had somehow made it through the roughest part, and were now at the end of this deadly winter, awaiting the sunshine of spring.

It was a frosty night, and the fire crackled delightedly, keeping the kids warm from the harsh bite of the cold. Aang, however, found himself away from the fire, sitting next to a frozen lake some distance away. It was extremely quiet, the only sounds to be heard were that of Sokka's loud snores and the crackling of the flames.

The Avatar sighed and looked out over the lake, finally averting his eyes downward to look at his reflection.

Of all the people in the world, why was he the Avatar?

Fate,a voice whispered almost mockingly in the back of his mind.Fate.

Well if this was fate, Aang was certainly not happy with it. Such a heavy burden had been placed on his shoulders at such a young age....How was he supposed to enjoy his childhood now?

But then....One good thing HAD come from this fate, and that was meeting Katara and Sokka. If it weren't for them, he'd probably be lost right now. And if it weren't for her, he wouldn't be mastering Waterbending right now. And certainly if it had not been for fate, he wouldn't have met her.

And there he was, suddenly thinking about Katara again. How was it that everything always led back to that girl? He could be thinking about the weather or somthing simple, and you could almost bet it would eventually lead to her.

Sighing yet again, Aang suddenly heard the soft crunching of snow behind him. Looking over his shoulder, he was hardly surprised to see Katara. They often sat together on cold nights, just talking...talking about things that were troubling them, or things they just felt the need to talk about. That was one of the things Aang definantly liked about her: He could always go to her to talk to her about anything and not feel embarassed.

He looked back to the frozen water as he felt her sit down beside him.

"Aang?".

"Yes,Katara?",he asked, not even looking at her. This was the same as any other night they had talked. She would say his name, and he would reply,'Yes,Katara', and then who knows what was to come after that...it was always somthing different. He turned to look at her, and saw her staring out over the lake also, her breath coming out as white vapor from the cold.

"What're you doing out here in the cold...?",she asked, turning to look at him. He stared back at her for a moment before shrugging.

"I dunno...just thinking, I guess...".

"Oh...",she said, then trailed off. There was a long silence between the two,in which they averted their eyes from one another. Katara looked from the frozen lake to Aang, then back to the frozen lake, then back to Aang....A smile slowly formed on her lips.

"Aang, have you ever been ice skating?".

Aang raised his eyebrows.

"Ice-whating?",he asked. Whatever she had just asked, it sounded pretty fun...

"Skating",she said, standing up,"Ice skating. Have you ever been?".

He took her proferred hand and stood up as well, facing her."No...I don't think I have. What is it?".

"I'll show you...",she said, and she placed one foot on the ice.

Aang began to panic."Wait, Katara!?What are you doing, it might crack!",he warned her, grabbing her above the elbow. She pulled away, and placed her other foot on the ice.

"No, it won't. This ice is thick, it'll hold us.".

Aang was surprised when she stretched out her hand for him to take. Having no idea what ice skating was, he hesitated before grabbing her hand and deciding that he could trust her.

"Now step on the ice",she instructed."Don't worry, I promise it won't break",she said,smiling.

Aang looked down, staring wareily at his feet. This ice was nowhere near as thick as the ice at the South Poel or North Pole...Surely it could not support them both.

Slowly,he placed one foot on the ice, pressing down. The ice made a small cracking noise, and he sucked in breath, drawing his foot back to land.

"Katara are you sure about this?".

" Sure I'm sure. Look, you can watch me first, then I'll teach you, ok?".

He nodded, and watched her as she pushed off with one foot and went gliding across the ice.

"It's simple",she told him,"all you do is push off and slide with your feet.".

She skated out into the middle of the lake, and he watched in amazment as she did a small jump in the air, twirling as she did so, and coming back to land gracefully on her feet. She did a few more tricks out on the ice, but Aang found himself stareing more at her herself, then paying attention to her instructions on how to skate.

"Wow, Katara...",he said dreamily as she skidded to a stop in front of him."That was amazing! I don't think I could ever do that....",he began blathering on to her, his cheeks suddenly feeling warm instead of cold. She silenced him by stretching her hand out again and saying,"Now you try.".

His eyes widened."Uh..no, I don't think I should!".

After watching her do all of those fancy tricks, his confidence level had slipped dirastically. He'd make a fool of himself in front of her! He'd probably fall on his butt and she'd laugh at him for not being able to skate like she could... But before he could do anything, she had jerked him onto the ice and skidded to the center with him. Instinctivley, he had wrapped his arms around her neck to keep himself from falling.

"Woah! Katara, stop! I can't! I'll fall or mess up!!",he pleaded as they stopped at the very center where the ice was thickest.

Katara laughed at him."Of course you're going to fall or mess up! I'd be surprised if you got it first thing...That's what makes it fun, Aang. When you fall down and have to do it again. It's called practice.".

Aang looked up at her, suddenly aware of how close his face was to hers, and he felt his entire body become warm. "Kind of like...learning to bend?",he questioned.

"Exactly.".

"Ok, so--Hey!".

She had let go of him, pushing away from him and leaving him unsupported in the middle of the ice. With nothing to support him, he slipped and fell flat on his face. Hiding a laugh as best she could, Katara slid over gracefully and helped him to his feet."Here...",she said gently.

He felt her warm hands take hold of his, and she helped him to glide across the ice. Time seemed to stand still as they gracefully slid across the ice together. He gradually became able to skate without problem(although still needing support) but made sure he kept his hands wrapped tightly around hers.

Around and around again they went, even becoming so bold as to jump and twist together. He felt his heart thumping, but it wasn't because of moving around so much...

They went faster and faster, and Aang laughed as he airbended a gust of wind to help them go even faster! They were both laughing and having fun without a care in the world, completely oblivious to the world around them.

They started to slow down a bit,and Aang fount himself staring into Katara's eyes as she stared back. His pulse quickened and he wondered if she could hear his heart punding against his chest. Their faces were becoming closer and closer, though they hardly seemd to notice. They could feel each other's hot breath on each others face...he knew they were about to kiss, but then....

WHUMP!!

Aang was suddenly cold from tip to toe, and his vision was clouded over with pure white. The two had slid off the ice and slammed into a huge pile of snow behind them. The only warmness Aang could feel was Katara's hand, still grasped tightly in his own.

Pushing his head out of the snow,he turned to see her head pop out as she slung snow from her hair. They stared at each other for a few seconds, before bursting into fits of hysterical laughter, bending the snow at each other and starting a snow fight. The moon shown down on the two 'friends' as they laughed and fought, their troubles forgotten

"Wake up you two!! It's time to go!!".

Aang grunted irritably as Sokka's loud voice reached his ears. He groped around for somthing to throw at Sokka, and his hand rested on a rock.

Fwap!

"Yowch!",Sokka yelled, holding his forehead where the rock had pelted him."What was that for!?".

"Be quiet, Sokka! You're voice is annoying!",Katara said to him, her voice muffled because is was still stuffed in her sleeping bag. Within secnds Sokka had been pelted with a rock from his sister.

"Ouch! I mean it, get up! You never let me sleep late, so why should I let you?",he complained.

"Leave us alone, Sokka!",Aang said, fianlly having enough and sitting up. He sucked in a deep breath of air, and exhaled, sending Sokka flying all the way back to the frozen lake.

Katara and Aang laughed as they heard a splash, and then Sokka's anguished yells.
